Round 11- Sunday 7th August 2011 – ECU 2   3 Perth SC

Goals conceded either side of half time proved crucial in ECU Under 10’s Round 11 game at home to Perth SC.

Although ECU had the majority of chances you could take nothing away from Perth, who worked hard throughout their team to frustrate ECU.

Perth took the lead in the 3rd minute with a well taken goal.

Ben and Charlie had early chances for ECU.

An ECU equaliser after 12 minutes. Etienne’s good work on the left wing, picking out Ben who cut inside the Perth defence and striking the ball home into the bottom left corner of the net.

Clear cut chances were at a premium in the first half as both defences kept a tight ship.

Aaron, Lennon and Harry at the back with Morgan sweeping in the goalkeeper’s role all showed great awareness as Perth looked to hit ECU on the break. Reading the play and covering well in ECU’s defensive third of the pitch.

Trent, Oliver and Charlie all had shots wide of the target as ECU looked for a second.

Perth took the lead against the run of play as the half drew to a close. ECU unable to clear from a corner and a shot through a crowd of players found the net for Perth’s second.

Charlie and Trent had further chances blocked as Perth defended heroically to close out the first period.

Kian, Evan and Ciaran came on for the second half, with midfield dynamo. Morgan handing over the goalkeepers gloves to Trent.

Perth extended their lead within a minute of the restart to stun ECU.

ECU continued to put pressure on the Perth defence with Charlie shooting over the bar on 37 minutes.

Ciaran broke through a minute later but his shot was straight at the keeper.

Evan’s positioning and distribution from centre back was a highlight of the second half as he attempted to kick start ECU’s passing game. His nick name of ‘The Tank’ couldn’t have been more evident as he contested a number of full blooded challenges.

ECU reduced the deficit after a short corner between Ben and Kian, the cross being met by Charlie who directed a fantastic header over the goalkeeper for a well deserved goal.

Trent was at full stretch to deny Perth on 40min with a fine save.

It was a frantic final five minutes as ECU pressed for an equaliser. Ben and Morgan with good efforts before Kian’s skilful run past 5 defender’s and delivering a cross to the back post which just eluded Ben’s late run for the final move of the game.

It was one of those days for ECU.
