Round 5- Sunday 5th June 2011 – ECU 5   1 Whitfords SC

It was ECU Family Fun Day on Sunday, and the Under 10’s set their stalls out early with an impressive performance against Whitfords SC.

Ciaran Bramwell was the quickest to react in a goal mouth melee to open the scoring within a minute.

Oliver Sadler caused problems for Whitfords, as he worked tirelessly on the left hand side of ECU’s midfield showing fantastic close control.A clinical 20 yard strike from Trent Ostler in the 7th minute found the keeper’s arms.

ECU’s defence of Harry Moses, Aaron Hinshelwood and Kian McGuigan were keeping the Whitford’s strikers at bay, with another organised display. The middle of the park was once again being run by Morgan Cooper. Working box to box, his distribution from the centre of midfield was impressive.

The relentless pressure from ECU had Whitfords on the back foot. Chances fell to Oliver whose shot from a short corner was cleared off the line and Morgan went close with an effort that shaved the right hand post.

On 24minutes Whitfords broke out from an ECU corner to snatch an equaliser against the run of play.

A flowing move between Harry, Trent and Charlie ended with Morgan shooting just wide of the left hand post and bringing an end to an enjoyable first half.
