ECU Under 9’s Finish In Style

ECU Under 9’s Finish In Style

ECU under 9’s had a mixed finish to the season with one defeat and one comprehensive victory in their last two games. On Sunday 18th September, the boys were away to a very good Westside, a team who have dropped very few points this season. The conditions were very difficult for both sides as there was a gale force wind blowing and both sides struggled to play decent football. Playing with the wind in the first half, ECU created a number of chances but failed to take them.

With a half time score of 0-0, it was always going to be difficult against the wind and two errors lead to Westside winning 2-0 although the boys never gave up and actually looked dangerous on the break a few times.

On Sunday 25th September, ECU hosted Bayswater in their last fixture of the season. The home side started well and Bayswater were content with just defending their goal, when after 5 minutes, a brilliant build up involving Harry Blunt and Wesley Casmir Brown ended with Dylan Leonard slotting home the opener. Further strikes from Harry and Dayan Bhudia and a breakaway goal from the away team gave us a half time score of    3-1.

The second half started well with Joe Hobson making it 4-1, the football was less fluent, due to the positional changes made. The, normally well-disciplined defenders, were given licence to go forward as it was the last game. Further goals from Dylan and Matthew McLaughlin and a second goal from the visitors made the final score 6-2 and a comprehensive finish to the season.

Overall this season has been a success, the boys play against much bigger and more physical opponents every week and they have steadily improved and have more than held their own. They have a well balanced team who are always encouraged to play good football.

A big thanks must go to the coach, John Higgins, for his efforts and patients and to Alison and Sharon for sharing the managers duties. Also a big thanks to all the parents for ensuring the boys are always there.

Well done to all the following boys for their efforts and improvement.

Aaron Louttit, Fredie Sadler, Ben Ford, Dayan Bhudia, Harry Blunt, Theo Gilsenan, Dylan Leonard, Wesley Casmir Brown, Matthew McLaughlin, Nathan Rhodes, Kurt Crompton and Joe Hobson.
