Balcatta under 12’s 1 ECU under 11’s 5

ECU under 11’s opened their 2011 season with a good 5-1 win on the road at Balcatta.

Both sides were keen to win as they had both lost their opening matches but it was the away team that started the brighter and created a couple of half chances and had the bulk of the possession. The deserved opening goal came after Ethan Kerridge swung over an excellent corner which was met with force by Oliver Ford and his header nestled into the roof of the net.

Up to this point the home team hadn’t really been in the game but surprisingly equalised when from a set piece, ECU’s Lewis Robinson brilliantly cleared an effort off the line only for a Balcatta player to net the rebound to make it 1-1. It was now close to half time and deservedly ECU went 2-1 in front with a carbon copy of their first goal. Another good corner by Ethan was partially cleared by Balcatta but only to Harley Curran who forced home a good header.

ECU dominated most of the second half and created a few chances but the score stayed at 2-1, much to everyone’s frustration. After 10 minutes of the second term, ECU won a free kick on the edge of the penalty area, Ethan stepped up and scored with a superb free kick that the Balcatta goalkeeper could do nothing about. The home team then seemed to lose all of their shape and when ECU next broke clear, Harley, unselfishly, set up James Lawless to make the score 4-1.

Within a couple of minutes James intercepted a poor Balcatta goal kick, held off the defender and neatly finished pass the goalkeeper to make it 5-1 and score his second of the day. A couple more chance were created and missed but ECU couldn’t add to the 5-1 scoreline and ended the match, comfortable winners.

A good all round performance, the boys played some nice football and put in a great all round effort with every player contributing. They now have a two week break for Easter but everyone is now eagerly awaiting the next game, at home to newly promoted Floreat on 1st May.
