Round 10- Sunday 31st July 2011 – Stirling Lions 4   1 ECU

Some quick counter attacks were the difference between the sides on a wet and windy morning at Macedonia Park.

The first half started well for ECU with Charlie just missing after being found with a great pass from Lennon. Ciaran was given the gloves and made a great save coming off his line and taking the ball at chest height.

ECU were passing the ball around and controlling the game. The defence was outstanding with great tackles from Evan, Kian and Lennon. The weather wasn’t helping ECU and clear chances were hard to find, but Ollie almost broke through but narrowly missed the target. Stirling were also trying to break the ECU defence but were unable. An increasingly physical game was unfolding and Morgan was replaced after being injured. Stirling then stole a goal with ECU still trying to reorganize.

The boys didn’t give up trying to play good football and good crosses by Ollie and Trent were just out of reach of Ben and Charlie. We didn’t have to wait much longer for a goal and it was the twins combining to put ECU level. A well placed cross by Aaron was met perfectly by Ben who slotted the ball home for a deserved equalizer.

Evan kept up the good work in defence with good support from Kian and Harry stopping all attacks. Lennon was trying all he could to find the gaps in the Stirling defence with some good passing but the half finished even 1-1.

ECU started the second half well Ciaran controlled the ball with his chest and passed the ball to Trent who’s cross was just too long. The back three of ECU were kept busy but they withstood all that Stirling could throw at them. It took a controversial goal to break the deadlock.

Being a goal down ECU pushed forward to try and find a goal. Lennon was close with a long range effort. Harry, Trent and Morgan combined well on the right to set up Charlie who’s shot was wide of the upright.

Against the run of play Stirling snatched a couple of quick goals to go 4-1 up. ECU kept playing well and Charlie was close to scoring again after a
great pass by Lennon. Ollie put some great crosses over from the wing  but the ball just wouldn’t go in. The Stirling keeper was having a busy game and denied Charlie again.

ECU fought to the end and were unlucky to lose by three goals.
