Round 12- Sunday 14th August 2011 – North Beach 2 ECU 4

ECU gave North Beach a football lesson on a cold Sunday morning winning 4-2 at Charles Riley Reserve.

The first half was full of great attacking moves and solid defending by ECU. The tone was set straight from the kick off with ECU winning a corner. Kian puts in a great cross but no one can apply the finishing touch. ECU keeps the ball with some great passing and Ben has a shot just wide. There is no let up for North beach and ECU wins another corner. Again Kian crosses the ball perfectly and Harry goes close with a shot.

Quick intelligent passing by Ciaran puts Trent free on the right and a great cross is headed just over by Ben. When North Beach does get forward they can’t find a way past Evan, Kian and Harry who are always hard to beat. Lennon was the keeper and made some important saves. It was all ECU in attack and great running by Trent, Ciaran and Ben kept North Beach on their toes.

Morgan was controlling the mid field and put a great ball through to Charlie who narrowly missed. The keeper had to be good to stop some powerful shots from Ciaran and Trent. The ball just wasn’t going in but ECU kept their composure and continued the onslaught with some good passing between Harry and Trent earning yet another corner. ECU looked to find the first goal and Ciaran struck a powerful shot from 18 yards which the keeper just got his fingertips to. A change in personnel put on Aaron, Etienne and Ollie for Ciaran, Trent and Evan.

With his first touch of the ball Ollie puts the ball calmly into the bottom right hand corner to make it 1-0. That seemed to spur on ECU and it felt like they could score again. Ben pushed his way forward and finished another good attack with a great strike to make it 2-0. Aaron kept up the good work in defence and there was no way through for the North Beach strikers. ECU pushed forward and Etienne was just wide with a left footed shot. The referee calls half time and ECU finish the half 2-0 in front.

The second half started where the first finished with ECU attacking. Morgan makes a good run down the wing and his cross is put out by a North Beach defender. ECU was now playing into the wind but still kept up their superior passing game.

Ben has a chance and the keeper makes another good save. Against the run of play North Beach snatch a goal 2-1. Morgan keeps the pressure on North Beach with some good tackles to stop them getting into attacking positions. Aaron and Lennon also put in some good tackles. Lennon then gets forward and turns inside his opponent and just misses the target with a great effort from 15 yards out. The game is close with the weather making it difficult for both teams. Morgan, Ben and Kian are replaced by Evan, Trent and Ciaran. Charlie was the keeper and made a good save to deny North Beach but they then scored from the corner to tie it up at 2-2.

Harry was still pushing forward and went just wide. It took a fantastic individual effort to break the stalemate. Ciaran beats three defenders and gives the keeper no chance with a low powerful shot 3-2. Almost straight from the restart the ball finds its way to Etienne on the left and he makes no mistake with another low shot in the right hand corner 4-2. Evan kept his concentration to not allow any lapses in defence and provide some good passes to players in space. A good run down the wing by Trent brings the game to a finish on a wet and windy Sunday morning at Charles Riley Reserve. A great result for ECU who gave away a lot in size but made up for it with great passing and a fantastic all-round team performance.
